Privacy Policy
Debatify is developed by an independent developer. This policy explains which personal data the app collects, why, and which choices you have.
1. Information we collect
- Sign-in: when you sign in with Google or X, we receive the name, profile photo and account identifier that the provider shares with us, and your email address if the provider shares it. Debatify does not offer any other sign-in method.
- Profile you set up: display name, emoji avatar, date of birth, country (optional) and the languages you discuss in.
- Activity: the debates you join, the side you choose, your arguments and replies, votes, direct messages, and reports and blocks you make.
- Purchases: diamond packs and power-ups are bought through Google Play. We receive confirmation of the purchase and the items bought; we do not receive your payment details.
- Ads: ads are served by Google AdMob. Your ad consent choices are collected through Google's User Messaging Platform.
- Technical data: device type, operating system, app version, language, crash reports, usage statistics, and a push-notification token for your device.
2. How we use your information
- To create and run your account and let you take part in debates.
- To confirm that you are 18 or older, using your date of birth. Your date of birth is never shown to other users.
- To show your level, streak, diamonds and limits, such as the number of messages and votes you can use each day.
- To send the notifications you choose: replies, direct messages, votes, debate updates and streak reminders.
- To moderate content, handle reports, blocks and mutes, and protect the app against abuse and fraud.
- To fix crashes and understand how the app is used, through Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics.
- To show ads. Personalized ads are shown only where your consent allows it.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in these cases:
- Service providers that run the app for us: Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Analytics, Crashlytics and App Check), Google Play (purchases) and Google AdMob (ads and consent).
- Other users: your display name, avatar, country flag and arguments are visible to other users in the debates. Anonymous messages hide your identity. Direct messages are visible to the people in that conversation.
- Legal requirements: when required by law or by a competent authority.
The news behind each debate comes from public news articles. Our AI model that writes the debates receives only those articles, never personal data from users.
4. Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account in the app's settings, we erase your profile, wallet, progress, stances, votes, devices and conversations. Arguments you posted stay in their debates, but they are anonymized: your name and photo are removed and the text is kept under a neutral name. Your direct-message conversations are closed, and the other person sees a neutral name instead of yours. Residual copies in backups are removed within 30 days.
5. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction: you can view and edit your profile in the app.
- Deletion: you can delete your account at any time from the settings.
- Notifications: you choose which notification categories you receive in the settings.
- Ads: you can change your ad consent and ad privacy options in the settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights, for example under the GDPR (EU and EEA), UK GDPR or the LGPD (Brazil). These can include asking for a copy of your data or lodging a complaint with your local data protection authority.
6. Minors
Debatify is only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
7. International transfers
Our service providers, such as Google, process data on servers that may be located outside your country.
8. Security
We use technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss or destruction, including access rules on our database and app integrity checks.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we make material changes, we will tell you in the app. The date at the top shows the latest version.
10. Contact
To ask about your data, use the developer contact listed on the Debatify page in Google Play.
